The EU will use these funds to repair buildings, ensure electricity and heating in Ukraine, and provide shelter and essential services for vulnerable refugees in Moldova.
Funds will support housing rentals, partially cover heating and water costs, and provide child benefits and social assistance for schoolchildren. Meanwhile, Ukrainian refugees made substantial contributions to Lithuania's economy, paying nearly $65 million in taxes by March 2023.
The initiative by the Hessen federal state is aimed at preserving Ukrainian identity and culture and also supports the education of approximately 20,000 Ukrainian students who fled to Hessen due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
