Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Germany for an unannounced visit on 14 December, Frankfurt police reported in X (Twitter).
Zelenskyy landed at Frankfurt airport, where law enforcement officers escorted him to a meeting in the Rhine-Main region. The exact purpose of Zelenskyy’s trip to Germany is unknown.
This visit comes after a week of foreign trips for Zelensky, including stops in Argentina, the United States and Norway.
According to European Pravda, “Zelenskyy wanted to be present in person at the EU summit in Brussels,” where Ukraine’s bid for EU membership and long-term financial support are being discussed.
However, EU leaders refrained from inviting him, allegedly over concerns regarding Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s reaction.
On 14 December, Zelenskyy addressed EU leaders remotely and urged them to “leave Putin unsatisfied with the agreements.” Zelenskyy said the urgency of the situation, stating, “Nobody wants Europe to be seen as untrustworthy. Or as unable to take decisions it prepared itself.”
The Ukrainian leader confidently asserted that Kyiv has met its obligations, saying, “We’re talking about a decision that was promised. And I haven’t heard any counter-argument as to why we shouldn’t implement the plan agreed upon by all of Europe.” He reminded the leaders that Ukraine had received clear recommendations and has since passed all the necessary laws, fulfilling every commitment.
“This day will go down in our history. Whether it’s good or bad for us, history will capture everything. Every word, every step, every action and inaction. Who fought for what,” Zelenskyy declared, highlighting the significance of their decisions.
