European nations, including Britain, are actively strategizing to support Ukraine in its war against Russia independently of the United States, in case of a potential return to power by Donald Trump, reveals a high-ranking Whitehall insider, according to The Times.
Ministers are trying to boost manufacturing capabilities across Europe to be able to replenish weapons and ammunition for Ukraine. The goal is to sustain Ukraine’s capacity to continue repelling Russian forces, even in the face of reduced US government backing feared under Trump.
The Times says British military intelligence leaders assess that Ukraine lacks the necessary manpower and weaponry for a significant battlefield victory against Russia in 2024. Conversely, Russia’s military is also deemed incapable of mounting a substantial counteroffensive to breach Ukrainian defenses.
Earlier, the sources told BILD that one of the European intelligence agencies believes Russia might invade one of the European countries at a time when the US finds itself “leaderless,” and while aid from the US to European states may be delayed.
