Greenland grabbed headlines, but NATO stayed focused. Admiral Dragone says Ukraine support is strong

NATO will continue comprehensive support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian military aggression. Ongoing initiatives are already producing results, says NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, UkrInform.

Dragone emphasizes that support for Ukraine remains a top priority for the Alliance and is strong, because Ukraine’s struggle concerns not only Ukraine itself but collective security.

Dragone has made these remarks amid the Greenland crisis, following US President Donald Trump's recent suggestion that Greenland should be taken under US control due to threats from China and Russia.

The Greenland crisis briefly diverted attention from Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities in -20°C conditions. However, NATO Secretary Mark Rutte noted that Ukraine, not Greenland, must remain the Alliance’s priority.

NATO is assessing security across all regions of Europe

During the NATO Chiefs of Staff meeting in Brussels, Dragone acknowledged that NATO “can and must do more,” adding that support for Ukraine will continue.

At the meeting, which Dragone attended, security “360 degrees” across all European regions was discussed, including the southern flank, the North Atlantic, and the Arctic, a region of strategic importance to NATO.

The Admiral noted that NATO has already planned military exercises in the region for the coming months.

He highlighted the key takeaway from the meeting: the Alliance is united and adaptable in order to fulfill its core missions.
