Chinese President personally warned Vladimir Putin against using nukes in Ukraine – FT

Chinese President Xi Jinping warned Russia’s President Vladimir Putin against any nuclear attacks on Ukraine during his visit to Moscow in March 2023, according to the Financial Times.

Since Xi returned to Beijing from Moscow, Chinese officials have privately stated that China’s leader discouraged Putin from using nuclear weapons against Ukraine, the Financial Times reported.

Russian officials, such as Dmitry Medvedev, ex-president and deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, have threatened to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine and its Western allies numerous times since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In June 2023, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had moved the first deployment of tactical nuclear warheads to Belarus. The Belarussian dictator, Aliaksandr Lukashenka, confirmed that the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus has begun. Thus, Belarus and Russia violated the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
