Poroshenko: the construction of the first and second lines of defense are 80% complete

As of today the construction of the first and second lines of defense fortifications near the eastern borders of Ukraine is 80% complete, stated President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during his visit to Zhytomyr oblast, reports his press service.

The President noted that he inspected the army’s preparation for winter.

“We have to do everything for the soldier to be fed and warm. Blindages and fortifications that are being constructed on the line of conflict have to guarantee not only security, but relative comfort, particularly in winter,” Poroshenko said when talking to media representatives.

The head of state noted that the military commandment emphasizes the need to solve the issue of winter clothing for the Ukrainian servicemen before October 10.

He also expressed special gratitude to the volunteers who are helping the army. “You know that an appropriate committee for coordination with the Armed Forces, the National Guard and Border troops has been created. I am sure that the improvement of their action coordination will only benefit our common goal,” emphasized the head of state.

Earlier Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov stated that the ‘Wall’ project, which includes a complex of defense fortifications, can only be constructed along the borders between Ukraine and Russia as defined by international conventions. The line of conflict between the Ukrainian army and ‘LNR’ and ‘DNR’ mercenaries is not viewed as a line for the ‘Wall.’
