Russia has hiked its weapons production considerably to sustain its invasion of Ukraine, Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stressed, according to Reuters.
He emphasized the significance of Europe stepping in to compensate for US aid to Ukraine if Washington doesn’t agree to new funding.
Europe must race to ensure it can better defend itself as new military threats could emerge as the Kremlin threatens the Baltic states, Georgia, and Moldova, by the end of the decade, Pistorius said.
“We Europeans must engage more to ensure on our own continent,” the minister stated.
Europe has about 5-8 years to catch up, in terms of armed forces, industry, and society, Pistorius added.
Earlier, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv and the US agreed to jointly produce weapons and defense systems, including air defense for Ukraine.

The president has called the decision “historic” and said that cooperation between the US and Ukraine would help protect Ukrainian cities and villages from Russian drone and missile attacks.
