The Ukrainian government in planning to introduce licensing on Russian books and quotas on foreign book printing, stated Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych.
According to him, licensing and quotation of foreign books will be established depending on how much of the market is occupied by Ukrainian books. He added that this touched not only on books issued in Russia but also books from other countries as well.
Sych stated that 80 percent of the books on the Ukrainian market are currently being imported, and a big part of the imported books come from Russia. The Vice Prime minister thinks that in such conditions the Ukrainian book market requires state protection. Sych proposes to implement limitations on Russian book publishers within the frameworks of sanctions against Russia which were announced by Ukraine on July 23rd.
The quotas on books presume a limit on book import from other countries. In case licensing of Russian books is introduced, their supply and sale in Ukraine will only be done after the issue of a special permit.
