Military

Ukrainian drones hit Russia's Mi-28 gunship and Mi-17 transport chopper 150+ km from the frontline. A joint operation by elite Ukrainian drone units and the SBU's Alpha special forces caught the rotorcraft refueling at a forward field airstrip in Russia's Voronezh Oblast on 29 April.

"Oil rain" reported in Perm after Ukrainian drones set Transneft pumping station ablaze 1,500 km from the war zone. Transneft hub is burning, "oil rain" reported in Perm. The Orsk oil refinery and a machine-building plant in Orenburg Oblast were also hit overnight.

Ukraine's new heavy drones reportedly penetrate Soviet-era Iskander shelters in Crimea. The target had been known for a long time. Russia felt safe inside bunkers built to survive Cold War ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian "Shamanbat" unit, including free Ichkeria fighters, just took out dozens of Kadyrov's men in single operation. The special unit "Shamanbat," coordinating with the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade "Horyn" and HUR agent networks, executed drone and artillery strikes that destroyed enemy transport, armored vehicles, and killed several dozen Akhmat personnel.

Russia's Victory Day parade goes without armor in 2026 after losing 24,486 combat vehicles in Ukraine. Russia built this parade for decades as its ultimate display of military might — a propaganda spectacle designed to intimidate the world and justify its war against Ukraine.

Intelligence and technology

Ukraine needs to build its own high-speed Mesh tech, as China is Russia's supplier, and Western modems are too expensive. The need is urgent and specific: encrypted, electronic warfare-resistant communication for controlling UAVs at distances of 300–400 km.

Ukraine should not advertise its new ballistic missiles until factories can mass-produce them, ex-security officer says. "We're standing in the same line with the Russians" with their failed Armata tank, Ivan Stupak noted.

Russia's "Russo-Balt" just unveiled almost-identical Tesla Cybertruck clone. It includes angular design, sharp body lines, stainless-steel body, distinctive front lighting.

Technology Russia and Ukraine refined on their battlefield just hit Israeli Black Hawk in Lebanon. Fiber-optic drones cannot be jammed by electronic warfare. No signal to block. No frequency to suppress. The wire carries the signal directly from operator to drone.

International

Russia is trying to block Ukraine's defense deals with Gulf, and just added 8,000 troops to Africa. Despite these facts, Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine will continue operations targeting Russia's export capacity.

"Unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine": King Charles to US Congress. The British king invoked the US-UK alliance forged through several wars to call for the same resolve in Ukraine's defense — and warned against turning "ever more inward looking."

Berehove's mayor tells Magyar what Ukraine actually provides its Hungarian community. The Hungarian community in Ukraine receives state support at all levels.

US ambassador to Ukraine Julie Davis to resign amid "frustration" with Trump – FT. FT reports Davis will leave her post in the coming weeks, adding to turnover in senior US diplomatic positions in Ukraine during the war.

Humanitarian and social impact

Russia hits two hospitals, kills one woman overnight in strikes on Ukrainian cities. A 60-year-old woman suffocated on smoke as her Shostka apartment burned. The same night, a Russian drone destroyed Izmail hospital's reception ward.

Ukraine opens international register of damage for Russian aggression, as reconstruction needs hit at $587.7 billion. The mechanism operates under the Council of Europe.

Russia declares nearly 8,000 Luhansk apartments "ownerless" for "nationalization". Apartments missing from the Russian "state registry," with unpaid utilities, or empty for three months, can be illegally seized by occupation authorities.
