A Ukrainian special military unit, including fighters of Free Ichkeria, has carried out a powerful strike against the Russian National Guard unit “Akhmat”. According to Ukrainian intelligence, these are the largest losses for this formation since the start of the full-scale war.
The operation was conducted by the special unit “Shamanbat” in coordination with other forces.
Units of the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade “Horyn” and intelligence agent networks also took part in the strike. As a result, Russian equipment and a significant number of personnel were destroyed.
Drones and artillery destroy equipment and inflict heavy losses on “Akhmat”
“Through drone and artillery strikes, intelligence forces destroyed enemy transport and armored vehicles and inflicted the highest personnel losses on the Kadyrov units since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression,” the Intelligence agency stated.
According to preliminary data, several dozen personnel were killed, and about 80 were wounded.
The intelligence service said further details of the operation will be released later.
“Shamanbat” coordinates strike and expands operations
The “Shamanbat” special unit includes, among others, fighters of Free Ichkeria, who are fighting on Ukraine’s side against Russian forces.
The operation was carried out in close coordination with territorial defense and intelligence units, enabling a precise, large-scale strike against enemy positions.
“Akhmat” unit suffers losses and reputational damage
The special rapid response unit “Akhmat” is part of the Russian National Guard and is subordinated to Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Russian journalists have previously reported that its fighters were involved in kidnappings, torture, and extrajudicial killings, per UNIAN.
During the war against Ukraine, the unit has gained a reputation as the so-called “internet troops” due to staged propaganda videos instead of real frontline combat. Some members of “Akhmat” are also suspected of war crimes against civilians, including in Bucha.
