The Hungarian national community in Ukraine receives state support at all levels, said Berehove mayor Zoltán Babják. He made the statement during a meeting in Budapest with Hungary’s parliamentary election winner, Péter Magyar.
He emphasized that minority rights are regulated by law and implemented in practice. The sides also discussed prospects for cooperation and the development of infrastructure projects in the region, including the involvement of European partners.
Ukraine ensures rights and supports Hungarian community
“I met with Péter Magyar in Budapest. We discussed projects important for the Berehove community and opportunities for cooperation with European partners," Babják stated.
According to him, there are no systemic violations of the rights of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.
“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is personally engaged in these matters, as evidenced by his repeated meetings with the community,” Babják said.
Projects strengthen infrastructure and regional development
During the meeting, specific infrastructure initiatives were discussed, including:
- construction of a modern rehabilitation center in Berehove
- completion of a waste-sorting plant in Yanoshi village
- development of a bypass road around the city
State funding supports education and integration
Babják noted that significant resources have been invested in Zakarpattia communities. This includes a new building of the Berehove district hospital, as well as roads and border checkpoints.
“Education and culture are funded from state and local budgets, ensuring all legally envisioned services. Representatives of the Hungarian community hold leadership positions in state and local authorities,” he added.
The mayor emphasized that Ukraine has adopted a number of decisions to ensure the rights of Hungarians in education, culture, and everyday life.
