Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that over the two years of full-scale war, Ukraine’s losses in killed amount to 31.000 people, while the Russian army has lost six times more.
“31.000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in this war. Not 300.000 or 150.000 as Putin lies about. Nevertheless, these are major losses for us. As for the Russians, 180.000 of their troops have died. In total, considering those injured, around 500.000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded,” stated Zelenskyy at a press conference.

Ukraine has not yet published official data on its losses. Neither has Russia.
Zelenskyy declined to provide figures on injured or missing Ukrainian soldiers. He said releasing these details risks enabling Russian forces to deduce troop numbers still in combat.
“We also know about tens of thousands of Ukrainians killed in occupied territories,” said Zelenskyy.
In November 2023, The Economist magazine, citing data from American officials, claimed that as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 70.000 Ukrainian military personnel had been killed.
