Ukraine’s border service says Russian troops still near border

PutinThe State Border Service of Ukraine says that Russian troops and equipment are continuing their maneuvers near the Ukrainian border, reports Interfax Ukraine, citing the agency’s press service, May 7.

“We’re continuing to detect maneuvers by Russian military aviation and equipment and movements by Russian troops near the Ukrainian border as we did before,” the border service reports.

Earlier on Wednesday, May 7, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, after meeting with Didier Burkhalter, the president of Switzerland and OSCE chairman, announced that Russia had withdrawn its troops from the Ukrainian border to their regular training posts.

“We’re constantly being told that our troops near the Ukrainian border have been causing worry. We withdrew them and they are currently not at the Ukrainian border but in locations where they are conducting their regular drills on shooting ranges,” Putin said.
