The Novocherkasskaya Power Plant in Russia’s Rostov Oblast, which borders Ukraine on the south, reportedly came under drone attack on the night of 25 March, Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev said.
A fire reportedly broke out at the Novocherkasskaya Power Plant. As a result, two power units were taken out of operation.
The Novocherkasskaya SDPP (State District Power Plant) is the largest thermal power plant and the second most powerful power plant in the Rostov Oblast after the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.
Local Telegram channels reported a drone attack and power outage issues in Rostov. Eyewitnesses claimed to have counted at least ten explosions and the sounds of drones.
Governor Golubev said that the fire occurred at a transformer substation. The plant’s employees reportedly extinguished the fire. No one was injured.
“The 330 kV high-voltage lines – Tikhoretskaya and Rostovskaya – were automatically shut down due to the fire. Now the power supply to consumers has been restored. Two power units of the SDPP have been temporarily taken out of operation,” Golubev wrote on Telegram.
Russian Telegram channels also reported about explosions in Nizhny Novgorod. The explosion occurred in the Sortuvalniy district. Residents of the city saw a bright flash and heard explosions. There was allegedly a malfunction of a 110 kV power line insulator due to explosions. There was no injury.
