Russia's Belgorod came under missile attack overnight into 7 July, sparking large-scale fires at a gas transport infrastructure facility and, reportedly, at the local airport, according to local Telegram channels. The same night, Moscow was targeted in a mass drone attack, the channels reported.
Kyiv wages a systematic deep-strike campaign against Russia's refineries, oil terminals, and fuel logistics — the industry that funds and feeds the invasion. The campaign has fueled a gasoline crisis across all of European Russia and many of its Asian regions.
Belgorod oblast governor Alexander Shuvaev said the region suffered a massive missile attack overnight and that, despite most munitions being shot down, hits were recorded on civil infrastructure, causing a fire at one site. Power and water supply disruptions were reported in parts of Belgorod and several municipalities due to damage to energy networks, Shuvaev said.
What was hit in Belgorod
Local residents flooded social media overnight reporting numerous explosions, with witnesses saying the city was struck by missiles that, according to preliminary information, hit the Belgorod linear production facility of the main gas pipelines (LVUMG). A large fire broke out at the facility.
The Belgorod LVUMG is a structural subdivision of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow LLC, itself part of Gazprom PJSC. Its main task is servicing main gas transport facilities in Belgorod oblast and ensuring stable gas supply to regional consumers.
The local airport was also likely struck by a missile, causing a fire on its territory.
Shuvaev wrote on Telegram: "In Belgorod, a report came in of a fire at an infrastructure facility—firefighters are working at the scene."
Drone attack on Moscow
Moscow also came under a mass drone attack overnight, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. An air raid alert was declared in the Russian capital around 3 am and lasted until nearly 6 am, he said.
More than 430 drones flew toward the Moscow Oblast, most of which Russian air defenses neutralized, Sobyanin said, without specifying how many reached their targets.
Sobyanin wrote: "Specialists from emergency services are working at the sites where debris fell."
Airport restrictions and Omsk refinery strike
A number of Russian airports introduced temporary restrictions on receiving and dispatching flights, including Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo, as well as airports in Penza, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, and Cheboksary.
Drones also struck one of Russia's largest oil refineries, in Omsk, sparking a large fire, which the General Staff confirmed.
