Consolidation of Europe and NATO is critical to deterring Russia. Kyiv currently lacks conventional missiles capable of intercepting Russian cruise missiles, so air defense will be a key topic for the next “Ramstein” meeting, according to the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament.
The next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format will take place on 12 February at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Currently, due to Russian attacks, the most difficult situations are in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia.
Missiles, drones, and aircraft for civilian protection
Member of Parliament and Deputy Chair of the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, Yehor Chernev, has outlined the key priorities for Ramstein:
- Funding the PURL program for missiles and additional air defense systems.
- Supporting the Ukrainian defense industry to produce enough drones and long-range missiles.
- Aircraft and aircraft weaponry as part of air defense capabilities.
“In the current conditions, we critically need modern air defense systems and missiles to protect against new attacks. All these munitions are available in Europe," Chernev emphasizes.
Ukraine also requires equipment for energy infrastructure, including generators, transformers, and spare parts to withstand attacks on the civilian sector.
Russia has no plans to compromise
Ukraine is particularly dependent on PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems, which can intercept ballistic, aeroballistic, and hypersonic missiles.
At the same time, there is a critical shortage of conventional missiles for countering cruise missiles and Shahed drones.
Chernev has noted that negotiations with partners are ongoing. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte urged Members of the European Parliament to push their governments to accelerate missile deliveries to Ukraine.
According to him, Russia is not ready to compromise or end the war. Therefore, European and NATO consolidation, along with the creation of a single security architecture, remain strategic priorities for Ukraine’s survival and the continent’s stability.
