The phone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump on the first day of Trump’s victory in the US presidential election highlights that both sides value their strategic partnership, stated Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi at a briefing, according to Ukrinform.
“The fact that they had a conversation on the very first day after President Trump’s election victory speaks for itself. It shows that both sides appreciate the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the US,” said Tykhyi.
The official emphasized that Zelenskyy and Trump maintain a long-standing, constructive, and results-oriented dialogue and will continue to stay in contact, with Ukraine enjoying bipartisan support in the US.
“We keep close contact with President Trump’s team and people around him, as well as with both political parties, so we also have good contacts with the Republican Party. All of this is being discussed,” added the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
The diplomat also expressed confidence that ensuring a just and fair peace in Ukraine aligns with America’s best interests and those of both political parties.
On 7 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his election victory.
Zelenskyy noted that both leaders “agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation,” emphasizing that “strong and unwavering US leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace.”
