Polish PM Tusk: US election crucial for Zelenskyy’s “victory plan”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said "no consensus" has been reached among EU leaders on how to evaluate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan, presented in Brussels. As reported by Ukrinform, the plan will be reassessed following the US presidential elections. Having already unveiled his plan to the public, Zelenskyy advocated for it among EU leaders last week. The plan outlines five main points: securing an invitation to NATO, bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities, implementing a strategy to deter Russian aggression, enhancing Ukraine’s economic and strategic potential, and applying Ukraine’s wartime experience to European defense. Some confidential aspects of the plan have been shared only with select Western allies. Tusk noted that it is unsurprising that EU leaders hold differing views on the plan, particularly regarding Ukraine's NATO membership, which is the first point of the proposal. He reminded that the discussion on Ukraine's NATO membership was first raised during Lech Kaczyński's presidency when Poland supported "opening the prospect of membership for Ukraine."

"Nothing has changed here: we remain in solidarity with Ukraine," Tusk emphasized.

He added that it is difficult to judge how realistic Zelenskyy's plan is at the moment, as the outcome of the US presidential election will significantly impact its feasibility.

"For now, we are awaiting the results of the US elections, and no one is hiding that," Tusk said, adding that Zelenskyy’s strategies "will likely be reassessed after the US elections."

Earlier, Zelenskyy and Donald Tusk signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of security between Ukraine and Poland.
