Russia suffered its highest rate of average daily casualties — killed and wounded — in Ukraine during February 2024 since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK Defense Ministry reported on 3 March.
The average stands at 983 Russian personnel losses per day throughout last month.
"The increase in the daily average almost certainly reflects Russia’s commitment to mass and attritional warfare," the UK Defense Ministry reported. "Although costly regarding human life, the resulting effect has increased the pressure on Ukraine’s positions across the frontline."
The British ministry also estimates that Russia has "highly likely lost over 355,000 personnel killed and wounded during the Ukraine war" in total since February 2022.
Ukraine’s military reported on 3 March that the Russian military had lost over 416,000 personnel.
Ukraine’s personnel losses were not revealed until the latest press conference of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 25 February. According to him, 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in this war. Zelesnkyy also said that Russia lost 180,000 troops.
