Germany provides a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes sniper rifles and ammunition

Germany provides a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes sniper rifles and ammunition

According to the update by the German Defense Ministry, the new package was approved on 1 December 2023 and included:

  • 3,840 rounds of 155 mm artillery ammunition;
  • 5 drone detection systems;
  • 8 8×8 HX81 tractor trains and semi-trailers;
  • 8 Zetros trucks;
  • 3 vehicles (trucks, minibuses, all-terrain vehicles);
  • 2 border protection vehicles;
  • 1 mobile antenna mast system;
  • 25 laser rangefinders;
  • 15 HLR 338 sniper rifles and 60,000 rounds of ammunition;
  • 250 tool kits with blasting material.

In total, Germany provided military assistance for Ukraine worth EUR 5.4 billion in 2023, after EUR 2 billion in 202. German commitments in the following years amount to EUR 10.5 billion. 

German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius visited Kyiv on 22 November 2023, where he announced a new package of military aid worth EUR 1.3 billion in total. This package will contain, among other things, four additional IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as 20,000 155-mm artillery ammunition and anti-tank weapons.

Before that, Pistorius confirmed media reports that Germany will double military aid to Kyiv for 2024 to EUR 8 billion.
