Ukraine, Albania sign agreement on friendship, cooperation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement on friendship and cooperation with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama during his visit to Albania, the Presidential Office reported on 28 February.

Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, Albania supported Ukraine, providing defense assistance to Ukraine. Albania also hosts Ukrainian children for rehabilitation and assists in the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian defenders.

The signed documents between the two state leaders “will facilitate the development of the cooperation and strengthen Ukraine’s position in the Balkan region,” according to Zelenskyy.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed Ukraine’s defense needs and the possibility of jointly producing weapons.

Zelenskyy noted Edi Rama’s readiness to participate in the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the work on a bilateral security agreement in the framework of the Joint Declaration of the Group of Seven on support for Ukraine.

The President thanked Albania for joining the EU sanctions against Russia and supporting the 13th sanction package of sanctions.

Albanian PM Edi Rama said on X that Albania is “standing in solidarity with Ukraine in its heroic fight against Russia’s aggression.”
