Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the 110th separate mechanized brigade named after General-Colonel Marko Bezruchko, located in Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, the Presidential Office reported on 29 December.
After Russia’s renewed assault on Avdiivka in October 2023, the Donetsk Oblast town of Avdiivka has seen the most intense fighting. According to the British Defense Ministry intel, Russian military casualties over the last six weeks “have likely seen some of the highest Russian casualty rates of the war so far.”
During his visit, Zelenskyy also awarded Ukrainian servicemen. In particular, he presented the title of Hero of Ukraine to Junior Sergeant Ihor Tymoshchuk.
The brigade commander, Mykola Chumak, said that “the Russian invaders do not spare people, but Ukrainian defenders firmly hold their positions and even take enemy soldiers prisoner.”
“Today in Avdiivka, together with the team, we extended Christmas and New Year greetings to the military. All those who are on the front line. We remember what is at stake in this war. We are defending our country,” Zelesnkyy said.
