As of the morning of 6 December, approximately 2,950 trucks have been queued at the Poland-Ukraine border due to an ongoing blockade by Polish truckers. This information was provided by Andriy Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in an interview with Ukrinform.
Demchenko further explained that, as reported by Polish border guards, the queue of trucks is distributed as follows: 1,950 trucks are waiting at the border checkpoints affected by the blockade since 6 November, specifically at:
- Yahodyn (550 trucks),
- Rava-Ruska (850 trucks),
- Krakivets (550 trucks).
Additionally, at the Shehyni checkpoint, where the blockade was initiated during daylight hours on 23 November and expanded to a 24/7 rally on 27 November, there are currently 1,000 trucks awaiting clearance to cross the border.
The spokesperson also confirmed that there have been no reports of border blockades in Slovakia. As of this morning, 650 trucks were queued to proceed towards Ukraine through the Uzhhorod checkpoint.
On the Hungary-Ukraine border, 730 trucks were waiting as of this morning to cross into Ukraine via the Tysa checkpoint.
As previously reported, the blockade initiated on 6 November by Polish carriers affected the movement of Ukrainian trucks at three major border checkpoints: Korczova – Krakivets, Grebenne – Rava-Ruska, and Dorohusk – Yahodyn.
Their primary demand is the reinstatement of commercial permits for Ukrainian carriers, suspended as part of Ukraine’s agreement with the European Union until 30 June 2024. The protesters are calling for the termination of this agreement and the reintroduction of permits from 1 January.
Furthermore, on November 23, Polish farmers joined the rally, adding their own set of demands and blocking freight transport movement at the Medyka – Shehyni checkpoint near Przemyśl.
The truck border blockades are taking place amid Russia’s sea blockade of Ukrainian ports, affecting the Ukrainian trade since February 2022.
