After meeting with leaders of the security services Tuesday evening, June 24, President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the Ukrainian military to fire back without any hesitation in response to terrorist attacks, the president’s press office said in a statement posted on the government website.
According to the press statement, on June 24, despite promises made during a meeting with the representatives of the trilateral contact group in Donetsk, militants shot down the helicopter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, causing the death of nine people. Since the announcement of the president’s peace plan, terrorists have opened fire on Ukrainian military 35 times.
The president does not rule out lifting the ceasefire earlier than planned due to the constant ceasefire violations by externally controlled militants, the press statement reported.
The president hopes to hold a four-party telephone conference on June 25 with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President François Hollande, and Russian President Vladimir Puttin. President Petro Poroshenko expects that as a result of these discussions, Russia will take practical steps to ensure the disarmament and withdrawal of mercenaries from Ukrainian territory and the establishment of a reliable security system at the border, the press statement concluded.
