Russia attacked Ukraine with drones overnight on 12 May, hours after Moscow's 9-11 May "ceasefire" window ended. The strikes spread across multiple oblasts and damaged civilian and railway infrastructure. The same day, regional officials reported civilian casualties from the previous 24 hours of Russian strikes, which shows that Russia's ceasefire was only about long-range drone strikes, while shelling continued in frontline regions.
Russia launched 216 drones overnight, Ukraine intercepted 192
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia attacked with 216 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parody drones, launched from eight directions including Bryansk, Shatalovo, Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk on Russian territory, plus occupied Donetsk and Crimea. Ukrainian air defense downed 192 of them. Hits were recorded at 10 locations and debris fell at five more.
Kyiv: drone debris hit a 16-story apartment block
In the capital's Obolon district, debris from a downed enemy UAV fell on the roof of a 16-story residential building, the National Police of Ukraine reported. Residents extinguished the fire before rescue services arrived. No one was hurt.
Kyiv Oblast: a kindergarten, five houses, and four more objects damaged
Russia's drone wave hit Kalynivka community in Fastiv district, where a kindergarten took damage, the Kyiv Oblast military administration wrote. In Vyshhorod district, a truck was damaged. In Bila Tserkva district, agricultural equipment. In total, nine objects were damaged across the oblast — a multi-story building, five one-family homes, a kindergarten, a vehicle, and farm equipment.
This is "yet more evidence that Russia is waging war against the civilian population, against Ukrainian children, against the very future of Ukraine," the administration said.

Zaporizhzhia under guided aerial bombs
In the morning of 12 May, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia and the oblast with guided aerial bombs (KABs), Zaporizhzhia Oblast head Ivan Fedorov reported.
Zhytomyr: homes and cars damaged, no casualties
In Zhytomyr, the overnight air attack damaged residential and outbuildings as well as cars, Zhytomyr Oblast head Vitalii Bunechko posted. Preliminary data showed no casualties.
Kharkiv Oblast: drones burned a bus and damaged a house
In Velykyi Burluk in Kupiansk district, a Russian attack UAV hit a business's grounds, setting fire to a bus and truck, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported. A separate drone strike on the village of Bezruky in Dergachi community, Kharkiv district, set fire to an outbuilding and damaged a residential house. No one was hurt.

Mykolaiv Oblast: Shaheds knocked out energy infrastructure
In the morning, Russia attacked the oblast's energy infrastructure with Shahed drones, causing blackouts in some settlements, Mykolaiv Oblast head Vitalii Kim said. No one was hurt.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast: locomotive driver wounded in railway strike
Russia attacked railway infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on the morning of 12 May, Community Development Minister Oleksii Kuleba confirmed. A monitoring team warned railway workers in advance of the incoming drones.
A locomotive driver heading to shelter still took a shrapnel wound — he is being treated, with no threat to life. Russian drone hits damaged locomotives and rolling stock. Train traffic in the region is being restored.

Previous-day civilian casualties: four killed, 23 wounded
Over the previous day, Russian forces had delivered 731 strikes on 24 settlements across Zaporizhzhia oblast — 548 UAVs of various types, eight MLRS strikes, and 175 artillery strikes. Authorities received 30 reports of damage to homes, non-residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure.

In Donetsk Oblast, Russian strikes on 11 May killed three civilians and wounded six, oblast head Vadym Filashkin reported. The oblast police recorded 1,033 strikes across 11 settlements, damaging nine civilian objects, including two houses.
In Kherson Oblast, 12 people, including one child, were wounded over the day, oblast head Oleksandr Prokudin posted. A multi-story building, five private homes, a gas station, agricultural equipment, and private cars were damaged.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, one person was killed and four wounded, Russian forces attacked five districts more than 20 times with drones, artillery, and air bombs, oblast head Oleksandr Hanzha said.
