Russian forces launched 187 drones overnight on 26-27 Feb., with Ukrainian air defenses shooting down or suppressing 165 of them, while 20 struck 14 locations across the country, Ukraine's Air Force reports.

The drones — approximately 120 of them Shaheds, along with Gerbera, Italmas, and other types — were launched from Bryansk, Orel, Shatalovo, and Prymorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea, according to the Air Force.

"As of 08:30, air defense shot down/suppressed 165 Russian UAVs of Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas types and drones of other types in the north, south, and east of the country," the Air Force reported. "Strikes by 20 attack UAVs were recorded at 14 locations."

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces were involved in repelling the attack.

Sumy: hotel struck, rescuers targeted in repeat attack

Russian forces struck the center of Sumy at approximately 4 am on 27 Feb., hitting a hotel and triggering a fire, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reports.

"Russia struck a hotel — during the firefighting effort, a repeat attack occurred. The hit was in the central part of the city. Rescuers evacuated 50 citizens," the DSNS said.

During the firefighting operation, Russian forces launched a second strike targeting the rescuers. No emergency personnel were injured, and the fire was promptly extinguished, according to the SES.

National Police confirmed that officers and rescuers were working at the site.

The attack follows a pattern of daily strikes on Sumy and surrounding communities. In a recent airstrike on Sumy's residential sector, three people were injured, including two children, according to reports.

On the night of 17 Feb., Russian forces attacked the Kyrykivska community in Sumy Oblast with three drones, hitting residential buildings. A 68-year-old woman was killed. Her relatives — a 42-year-old son, a 40-year-old daughter-in-law, and two children aged 7 and 15 — were wounded. In a neighboring house, a 79-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were also injured.

In a separate incident, a Russian drone struck a civilian car carrying a family — a man, a woman, and their daughter. All three were wounded, with the 66-year-old woman sustaining severe injuries.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast: four injured, including teenager

On 26 Feb., a Russian drone attack on Zaporizhzhia district injured four people, including a teenager, the DSNS press service in Zaporizhzhia Oblast reported on 27 Feb.

Fires broke out at several addresses, burning two residential buildings, an outbuilding, a car, and a low-pressure gas pipeline. The blast wave and debris partially damaged residential buildings.

SES psychologists provided assistance to eight people, the agency reported.

Kharkiv Oblast: man killed, wife wounded in Kupiansk district

On 26 Feb. at approximately 9:40 pm, Russian forces struck the private residential sector in the settlement of Pidserednie in Kupiansk district with two UAVs, preliminarily Shahed-136/Geran-2 type, according to the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor's Office.

Rescuers recovered the body of a 67-year-old man from under the rubble. His wife was wounded.

The Kupiansk District Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into a war crime resulting in death (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
