Nearly two-thirds of Germans believe the United States will pose a serious threat to world peace in the coming years, according to a survey conducted by the Allensbach Institute for the Center for Strategy and Higher Management, DW reported, citing the survey.
The poll found that 65% of respondents named the US when asked which countries represent the greatest danger to world peace. A year earlier, that figure stood at 46%. In 2024, only about a quarter of the population, or 24%, viewed the US as a threat to peace.
Russia remains the country most Germans consider a threat. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, between 75% and 82% of annual survey respondents have named Russia as the country posing the greatest threat to world peace. The latest figure is 81%.
China was named by 46% of respondents as a country threatening world peace.
The survey was conducted across Germany from January 6 to 19 among 1,077 people aged 16 and older.
Respondents were also asked how likely they consider Germany's entry into a war in the coming years. Only 3% answered that such a scenario is very likely. However, 28% consider it fairly likely, and 24% are undecided.
Another 40% of respondents consider Germany's entry into war rather unlikely, while 5% consider it very unlikely.
Recent polls in Germany have shown that Germans distrust the US almost as much as Russia. Distrust of the US was expressed by 76% of Germans surveyed. Only Russia has higher figures – 83% consider it an unreliable partner.
Another poll showed that more than two-thirds of European Union citizens are convinced that US President Donald Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
