Japan has transferred approximately €47.7 million ($49.9 million) in grant assistance to Ukraine as part of Phase 4 of the Emergency Recovery Program, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development reports.
The funds will be directed toward demining operations, energy infrastructure restoration, and water supply systems repair.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba said that "this assistance will directly impact the safety and basic living conditions of Ukrainians" and help communities become more resilient.
Japan's parliament has approved supplementary budget allocations that will enable the launch of Phase 5 of the Emergency Recovery Program and continuation of grant projects and technical support for Ukraine, according to the Japanese side.
During bilateral meetings, officials discussed joint projects, operations of the JUPITeR platform (Japan-Ukraine Platform for Infrastructure Reconstruction), and assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The parties also addressed preparations for the next mission of Japanese companies to Ukraine, scheduled for March.
Separate discussions focused on Ukraine's needs in transport logistics, energy efficiency, and critical infrastructure protection.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on December 20 that Japan plans to provide Ukraine with €5 billion in financial assistance in 2026.
