Unidentified drones struck the Yefremov Synthetic Rubber Plant in Russia's Tula Oblast overnight on 24 24 December, according to the Telegram channel Astra, citing local residents.
Tula Oblast Governor Dmitry Milyayev later confirmed a fire broke out at an enterprise in the region following the attack.
“The fire has been extinguished, there are no casualties," Milyayev stated, adding that the blaze had been extinguished with no casualties reported.
The targeted facility ranks among the Soviet Union's first synthetic rubber producers, operational since 1933. The plant currently serves as Russia's sole manufacturer of high-molecular and low-molecular polyisobutylene, a material with specialized properties used across multiple industries. Both synthetic rubber and polyisobutylene feature in numerous defense-related products, according to the report.
Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed its forces downed 172 unidentified drones during the night.
