Russia launched a record-breaking 145 drones against Ukraine overnight Sunday, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 62 enemy drones, 67 were lost to tracking systems, and 10 strayed into neighboring Moldova, Belarus, and Russia.
Russia continues its relentless nightly drone, missile, and bomb attacks on Ukraine, with strikes intensifying in recent months. Despite Ukraine’s repeated pleas for stronger air defenses and authorization to strike deep into Russian territory with Western-supplied weapons, allies remain hesitant, leaving Ukrainian cities exposed.
“The Air Force’s radar units detected and tracked 145 aerial targets – Shahed-type strike UAVs and unidentified drones launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Oryol, Bryansk in Russia, and Cape Chauda in Russian-occupied Crimea,” the Air Force reported via Facebook.
By 9:30 AM, Ukrainian forces confirmed drone interceptions across twelve regions, including Odesa, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk.
In Odesa, the attack resulted in several civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure, including residential buildings, shops, garages, and vehicles. Multiple fires broke out but were successfully extinguished by emergency services.
The capital, Kyiv, faced approximately fifteen drones, with air raid alerts sounding twice at night for five hours. No damage or casualties were reported in the city.
