US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, said in an interview with CBS News, that US President Joe Biden would aim to convince the incoming administration under Donald Trump of the need to continue supporting Ukraine.
The senior White House official stated that Biden’s approach in these final days “remains the same as it’s been for the last two and a half years, which is to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the battlefield, so that it is ultimately in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table.”
Sullivan added that until the end of its term, the administration will strive to fully utilize all resources allocated by the Congress for military support to Ukraine.
“And of course, President Biden will have the opportunity over the next 70 days to make the case to the Congress and to the incoming administration that the United States should not walk away from Ukraine, that walking away from Ukraine means more instability in Europe,” Sullivan claimed.
However, the US security advisor declined to specify whether any new legislative proposal for funding was planned. He did note, though, that the White House aims to ensure ongoing support for Ukraine after Biden’s term ends, saying, “the threat to Ukraine will remain no matter what exactly happens on the battlefield or at the negotiating table.”
Previously, Mykhailo Podoliak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commented on US support for Ukraine following Trump’s inauguration. According to him, the new US president would not concede to Moscow, as per UNIAN.
Podoliak stated that Trump would likely want to demonstrate the strength of America to the world, including Russia and its allies.
