Russian artillery struck its troops after a failed assault on Ukrainian positions in the Kurakhiv’s front, the Ukrainian 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade reported.
The day before the shelling, Russian infantry attempted an assault to capture the positions of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. Despite relatively good preparation for the assault, the Russian column suffered heavy losses and was damaged while crossing a minefield.
Ukrainian FPV drones destroyed combat vehicles. However, the occupiers managed to deploy infantry into a forested area where the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade was based. Due to significant losses and a lack of resources, seven Russian soldiers decided to surrender. They initially emerged from the forest with their hands raised and began to follow a drone that was supposed to lead them to Ukrainian positions.
While following the drone, Russian artillery began firing on the prisoners, resulting in the deaths of some of the soldiers. In total, the enemy fired three artillery shots at their own troops, killing several, but others managed to reach the Ukrainian brigade’s positions. The shelling of Russian troops occurred near the village of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that Ukrainian paratroopers from the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade had defeated Russian assault units in Donetsk.
Overall, the invaders deployed 35 armored combat vehicles supported by nine tanks, five of which were destroyed.
