US Embassy warns its citizens in Russia of possible ‘extremist attacks’ in Moscow

The US Embassy in Russia warned its citizens on 7 March of the threat of extremist attacks in crowded places in Moscow within the next 48 hours.

The extremists reportedly were planning to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, and US citizens should avoid mass gatherings for the next 48 hours.

The US Embassy did not provide further details on the warnings.

The British Foreign Office has also reported the recommendations, which advise against traveling to Russia due to the possible “political rallies and demonstrations that can take place in Moscow, St Petersburg and across Russia.”

The UK Foreign Office also said, “There are reports of drone attacks and explosions in areas in western and southern Russia, particularly near the Russian border with Ukraine, Moscow, and St Petersburg.”
