Lithuania delivers a shipment of 155-millimeter ammunition to Ukraine, the country’s Ministry of Defense reported on 7 March.
After the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Avdiivka on 17 February, US President Joe Biden said lack of ammunition forced Ukrainian soldiers to retreat from Avdiivka.
Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said Lithuania listened to Ukraine’s wishes and delivered what is currently most needed.
“Another batch (155-millimeter artillery ammunition) was delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine today,” the minister said on X.
Czech President Petr Pavel said at the Munich Security Conference in mid-February that Chezh had found about 800,000 artillery shells abroad that could be sent to the Ukrainian military in a few weeks. However, he said financial support was needed to deliver the ammunition to Ukraine.
US and EU countries later announced their readiness to finance the delivery. Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė also announced their countries’ decision to join the initiative but did not disclose the future contribution amount.
