JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry has signed a memorandum with leading missile development and manufacturing company MBDA Deutschland, Ukroboronprom announced on 20 February.

The document outlines joint exploration of programs or opportunities for cooperation in air defense systems and concepts, particularly for countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Potential areas of partnership include research, development, production, and investment.

“Collaboration with leading global arms companies not only expands Ukraine’s capabilities on the battlefield but also lays a solid foundation for further development of our defense industry and aids in its integration into the NATO defense industry,” the CEO of the Ukrainian defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom, Herman Smetanin said.

MBDA Deutschland is a German subsidiary of MBDA, a leading European defense company that specializes in the development and production of missile systems. It is a key player in the defense industry, providing advanced missile technologies for air, land, and naval forces. Some notable weapons and missile systems manufactured by MBDA Deutschland include Taurus KEPD 350 missiles, IRIS-T missiles, and Meteor missiles.

“This agreement is an important milestone in the relations between the defense industries of our countries. I look forward to working with UkrOboronProm, a leading player in the European defense industry,” Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland said.

On 17 February, the largest European arms manufacturer Rheinmetall announced its plans to open an ammunition production plant in Ukraine.
