Russian occupying forces continue their offensive operations in the Kupiansk, Lyman, and Bakhmut directions, with the situation remaining challenging, according to General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, on 11 January.
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War reported that Russian forces may intensify their efforts to capture Kupiansk in Kharkiv Oblast in the upcoming weeks.
General Syrskyi noted that the Russian army is persistently attempting to dislodge Ukrainian units from the Kupiansk forest and seize Synkivka, with the goal of cutting off Kupiansk.
"Despite the enemy's large-scale offensive, our soldiers steadfastly maintain their defensive positions in all directions, inflicting significant losses on the enemy," General Syrskyi stated on his Telegram channel.
In the Lyman area, Russian troops are engaging in offensive maneuvers to force Ukrainian forces back across the Chornyi Zherebets River, accompanied by intense artillery bombardment. They are also deploying additional assault units from Russian territory.
General Syrskyi mentioned that the Serebrianskyi Forest “remains one of the directions where the main efforts” of Russian troops are concentrated. Here, Russian forces make unsuccessful attempts to attack Ukrainian positions with armored vehicle support in the directions of Torske, Dibrova, and Yamplil.
In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops are exerting "every effort to cross the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal," according to General Syrskyi.
Moreover, Russian forces “are attempting to create favorable conditions for an offensive on Chasiv Yar and to recover lost positions near the lakes east of Klishchiivka and Kurdiumivka,” the Commander added.
