Ukraine marked its 25th anniversary of independence on August 24 with a massive military parade on Kyiv’s central street Khreshchatyk, showing off its military might. But soldiers from volunteer battalions and relatives of men killed on the front lines gathered together for an alternative “parade” – the March of the Unsubdued.
Several thousand people, carrying photos of fallen heroes, flags, and flowers walked along Khreshchatyk from Bessarabska ploshcha to vul. Institutska. The purpose of the event was to show the world the scale of the tragedy perpetrated by Russian armed units and terrorist organizations in eastern Ukraine, as well as the strength and unity of the Ukrainian nation.
The event ended in prayer.
