As a result of sabotage Russia received the opposite result – Georgia reconstructed its energy system and practically stopped being dependent on supplies from the Russian Federation, stated former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili.
Former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili compared the explosion on the gas pipeline in Poltava oblast with the events in Georgia in 2005. He writes about this on his Facebook page.
“Putin’s style does not change: in January of 2005 the gaspipeline Georgia used to import Russian gas, as well as the main electricity supply line, were blown up by “unidentified terrorists” in several places. Georgia ended up without heating and light in winter, in record cold weather,” remembers the politician.
Saakashvili thinks that such actions can give a reverse effect, just like it has happened in Georgia.
“As a result of such sabotage, Russia got a completely opposite result from what Putin probably counted on. We reconstructed our energy system and very soon practically stopped being dependent on the unreliable neighbour in terms of energy. This independence was reached due to the elimination of corruption, which ate away at the energy sector, increase of our own power, as well as the transition to more reliable suppliers.”
