Some MPs from the LDNR faction in Russian State Duma are still in Crimea, intending to visit a number of cities. This was mentioned on the faction’s website. It was stated that today is the second day of the MPs’ visit to the peninsula.
Deputy head of party LDNR MP Oleksiy Didenko told about what happened in Sevastopol yesterday. According to him, “some of the orange Crimean tatars” yelling “anti-Russian slogans” tried to hamper the session of the Crimean Republic’s Verkhovna Rada, which was called to file the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers.“Shortly, they plan to visit Sevastopol, Yalta, Feodosiya, Kerch and other cities in order to find out about the opinions about and attitude towards the LDNR’s initiative with regards to obtaining Russian citizenship, and to find out what they think about the future status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea,” the official announcement reads.
“Later that day, many more Crimeans with a pro-Russian mindset gathered and were displaying the flags of Russia and Crimea, chanting “Russia, referendum, Crimea is Russia,” Didenko said.
At the same time, he did not state that the protesters’ actions caused the disruption of the session, but rather that the “cowardice of certain MPs, including those from the Party of Regions, which prevented them from attending the session to evaluate the recent events and discuss the future of Crimea in the given circumstances.”
As previously reported, yesterday several thousand opponents to the idea of the separation of Crimea from Ukraine, mostly Crimean Tatars, gathered at the Crimean Republic’s Verkhovna Rada. They gradually drove off the pro-Russian rally from the territory of the Rada.
Tatars and Euromaidan activists called for Russians, Ukrainians, and people of different nationalities to unite in order to prevent provocations and protect churches, mosques, synagogues, and other strategic units, and then left.
