We have a clear action plan to counteract attempts to destabilize the situation in Ukraine – Aresniy Yatsenyuk

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaliy Yarema are now in Kharkiv and Donetsk with a clear action plan to address the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine, said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

“Overnight, we developed a clear action plan to address the situation.”

Arsen Avakov left for Kharkiv; Vitaliy Yarema, for Donetsk.

“I am in constant contact with the power ministries. I will provide information about the situation, and I will inform members of the government on how the situation develops. In Kharkiv, the situation is relatively stable. I am sure that in other regions we will be able to restore order together,” said Yatsenyuk.

Euromaidan activists are painting a several meter long Ukrainian flag opposite the Kharkiv Regional Administration building. The national flag of Ukraine is back over Kharkiv City Administration, instead of the previously installed Russian flag and the flag with the emblem of Kharkov.

Euromaidan supporters are holding a rally in Liberty Square and Sumska Street, and there is a rally of anti-Maidan pro-Russian extremists who seized the Kharkiv Regional Administration last night.

Anti-Maidan pro-Russian extremists, numbering about 300, gathered on the sidewalk in front of the Kharkiv Regional Administration. About a hundred anti-Maidan extremists are still in the Kharkiv Regional Administration building.

Anti-Maidan extremists are holding flags of the USSR, the Russian Federation, a banner bearing an image of Stalin, St. George’s flags, and banners reading ‘ NATO = Fascism,’ ‘ Down with the policy of double standards,’ and ‘ We demand respect, not terror.’ Participants in the rally are shouting, ‘Down with Bandera,’ ‘Russia,’ ‘Referendum.’ Anti-Maidan extremists are calling for Euromaidan protesters to switch to their side.

Euromaidan activists, opposite the building of the Kharkiv Regional Administration in Liberty Square, hold flags of Ukraine and banners with slogans: ‘We stand for the Constitution, separatism will not work,’ ‘Putin is asshole,’ ‘Kharkiv is Ukraine,’ ‘Glory to Ukraine,’ ‘Ukraine is united,’ ‘Down with Putіn.’

The Euromaidan and anti-Maidan rallies are separated by two cordons of police. There are several dozen police officers in the Kharkiv Regional Administration building. Negotiations between the authorities and the anti-Maidan extremists who seized the building are continuing now.

The separatists who seized the Donetsk Regional Council announced the creation of the Independent Republic of Donetsk. This decision was taken at an extraordinary session of the self-proclaimed People’s Council of Donetsk Oblast and announced by a leading participant in the rally at the walls of the Donetsk Regional Council building, reports local broadcasting company Ostrov.

The speaker announced that from now on, Donetsk Oblast is the Independent Donetsk Republic: “Henceforth, Donetsk Oblast is an independent republic. Hurrah!” The crowd greeted the announcement with applause and shouts of “Russia, Russia!” The speaker added that the decision was taken at an extraordinary session. Later, the People’s Council took another decision to join the newly created republic to Russia. Protesters met this information with shouts of “Putin, help us!”

As previously reported, the separatists demanded that the desicion be made in a legitimate session of the Donetsk Regional Council, but deputies did not come, so they ‘stole’ mandates and formed the People’s Regional Council.

Currently, the flag of Donetsk Oblast has been removed and replaced with the flag of the Donetsk Republic on the flagpole near the Donetsk Regional Council. Protesters continue to reinforce the barricades, piling up car tires. Protesters are asking for help with transport. Barrels with a gas mixture are next to the barricades and protesters are ready to set them on fire if needed, reports local broadcaster Ostrov.
