Despite earlier agreements with Russian authorities, Ukrainian doctors have not been allowed to see Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko at the Moscow prison where she is being held, reports Espreso TV, citing Savchenko’s attorneys.
The Ukrainian medical team, after standing for 8 hours at the entrance to the Matrosskaya Tishina prison on Friday, March 13, finally left for their hotel, said Savchenko’s attorney Mykola Polozov. They will try again Saturday morning, Polozov told Espreso TV. He also reported that an ambulance was seen leaving the prison.
The Ukrainian medical team arrived in Moscow on Friday morning, March 13, with the intention of examining Savchenko. Team members include Dr. Andriy Strokan, deputy chief medical officer at the Feofania Clinical Hospital, Nataliya Kharchenko, the chief gastroenterology specialist with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, and Larysa Sokolova, the head of the Department of Neurology at the Bohomolets National Medical University.
On March 6, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health announced it would send three doctors to examine Savchenko. On March 12, Illya Novikov, one of Savchenko’s attorneys, said that Russia had agreed to allow the Ukrainian doctors to see Savchenko.
