A Ukrainian mother and her young son, previously deported to Russia, have successfully returned to Ukraine, despite repeated rejections by the Russian border authorities. This was reported by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
The family reached out to the Ombudsman’s office in May this year after being unlawfully deported to Russia, seeking assistance to return to Ukraine.
According to Lubinets, the family had been residing in the village of Lyptsi in Kharkiv Oblast until the outbreak of the full-scale war when Russian troops entered their village. On March 16, 2022, the occupation authorities forcibly relocated the family to the Voronezh region of Russia, stated the Ombudsman’s Office.
In order for the family to obtain a return certificate to Ukraine, the Ombudsman’s Office contacted the State Migration Service of Ukraine. An organization dedicated to the return of deported individuals provided accompaniment for the mother and child in Russia.
“Even with all the necessary documents, the mother and her young son were repeatedly denied entry at the border by the Russian side, without any given explanations,” Dmytro Lubinets noted.
The family crossed the Ukrainian border from Russia on June 18 and are currently in Kharkiv.
- Earlier, it was reported that 125 children deported to Russia had returned to Ukraine.
