On 22 June, Ukraine's National Guard top officer said that Russians tried to carry out assaults in the eastern direction to distract Ukrainian reserves from the south where the Ukrainian forces have been carrying out counter-offensive operations.
At a briefing in Kyiv, Colonel Mykola Urshalovych, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning for the Use of the Main Directorate of the National Guard, said that last week, Russians conducted unsuccessful assaults on the positions of the National Guard units at the Kupiansk, Lyman, and Siversk directions, actively using rocket artillery and aviation.
Earlier, Ukraine's Defense Ministry reported Russian offensive attempts in the directions of Lyman (Donetsk Oblast) and Kupiansk (Kharkiv Oblast).
In the Bakhmut sector, Guards' reconnaissance and strike units continued to destroy enemy equipment and field ammunition depots, gradually depleting the enemy's ability to conduct active defense, according to Urshalovych.
"In the Melitopol sector [Zaporizhzhia Oblast], the National Guard units, together with other components of the Defense Forces, continued offensive actions," said the colonel.
