The Supreme Council of Justice (SCJ) will file a memorandum to the President and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the dismissal of 38 judges based on their resignation applications, along with a number of applications to the President to appoint 24 initial judge nominees.

This was announced by Oleksandr Lavrynovych, head of the SCJ, after a meeting held on 11 February 2014, reports High Castle daily.

In particular,according to the press service of the SCJ, Orlova Svitlana, judge of the High Specialized Court of Ukraine in civil and criminal cases, filed her resignation.

In addition, resignations were filed by six judges from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, four from Kirovograd Oblast, four from Odesa Oblast, and two each from Kharkiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy, Vinnytsya, Khmelnytsk, and Kyiv Oblasts.

Of the 38 judges, one filed for resignation in connection with turning 65 years old, and another resigned for health reasons. The reasons for the remaining 36 resignations were not specified.

Initial judge nominees were successfully selected by the SCJ as follows: three applicants each to the courts in Volynska and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts; two each to the courts in Poltava, Lviv, Kirovohrad and Donetsk Oblasts; and one each to the courts of of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpatska, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Vinnytsya and Ternopil Oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Seven initial nominees to the courts of Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Luhansk, Zakarpatska and Donetsk Oblasts failed their interviews during the SCJ meeting.
