Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain William Hague states that before Friday, June 27th, the EU “has an opportunity to see how Russia will react” to the peace plan of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and the Russian President Vladimir Putin should have no doubt that the EU “is capable of imposing further sanctions.”
As UNIAN correspondent reports, Hague stated this today in Luxembourg on the eve of the EU Council session on the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
“Before Friday we will be able to see how Russia is reacting to the peace plan. Russia, President Putin should have no doubt that in the EU we are ready to employ means. A lot of work has been done (to prepare sanctions). If necessary, we are ready to employ these means,” he stated.
The head of the British MFA called Poroshenko’s peace plan “strong and very good.” “We hope that now everyone, including Russia, will work on it,” he emphasised.
In this light Hague emphasised the words of President Putin regarding the support of this plan. “We expect that these words will be converted into actions for Russia. We expect that Russia will really act to stop the influx of weapons through the border in the east of Ukraine, illegal armed formations. There are possibilities for it. The EU will be capable of imposing further sanctions regarding Russia,” stated the Minister.
