A series of explosions struck occupied Luhansk in the early hours of Friday, 5 June, triggering a large fire at what monitoring channels identified as a fuel depot supplying Russian occupation forces, according to local monitoring channels.
The attack follows a pattern of Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian military logistics in Luhansk Oblast, including a late-May operation by the Third Army Corps that hit supply lines stretching more than 200 kilometers into Russian-held rear territory, according to RBC-Ukraine.
What monitoring channels reported
Several explosions were heard in the city overnight, local Telegram channels reported. The Exilenova+ channel reported that drones likely struck a local oil depot. Video showing a large column of black smoke and heavy flames spread online following the blasts.
No official confirmation of the nature of the targeted facility has been issued. Occupation authorities have not commented on casualties or the scale of damage, and information on both remains unverified.
Recent strikes on Luhansk Oblast
On 23 May, the SBU and the First Separate Center of Unmanned Systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported striking a Russian rail echelon, fuel storage tanks, field ammunition depots, repair bases, and telecommunications infrastructure on temporarily occupied territory in Luhansk Oblast. According to the SBU, the operation resulted in more than 80 Russian servicemen killed or wounded, and destroyed a personnel base, a drone maintenance and repair facility, an occupation police building, and a significant quantity of equipment and fuel stores.
On 22 May, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a strike on the headquarters of the Russian Rubikon drone unit in occupied Starobilsk, Luhansk Oblast. Ukrainian forces denied occupation authority claims that the institute's academic buildings — where students were allegedly present — had been hit.
Ukrainian Air Force units also struck a Russian command post and communications hub in occupied Luhansk Oblast using Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
