Ukraine has formalized a new “deep strike center” within its Unmanned Systems Forces to coordinate attacks on high-priority Russian targets, including those located deep behind the front line, military officials said.
The center is designed to systematize how Ukraine plans and executes strikes on key enemy assets, particularly in occupied territories and beyond, according to Major Olha Meloshyna, spokesperson for Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, cited by ArmyInform.
"A systematic approach to hitting priority enemy targets"
“The deep strike center demonstrates a systematic approach to hitting priority enemy targets,” Meloshyna said.
She said the initiative reflects a broader effort to improve coordination between units and increase the effectiveness of long-range and precision strikes using drones.
The center operates as part of a wider grouping of drone units and works in coordination with other branches of Ukraine’s defense forces to plan and execute operations.
Eight FP-2 drones hit FSB command post in occupied Donetsk
As an example of its work, officials pointed to a previously reported strike on a command post and rear base of a Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) unit in occupied Donetsk.
According to Ukrainian military officials, the April 22 operation involved eight precision drone strikes using FP-2 systems. The strike reportedly killed 12 Russian officers and wounded 15 others.
The targeted FSB unit was described as being involved in sabotage operations, intelligence gathering, and coordination of subversive activities in Ukrainian-controlled areas.
The operation was carried out in coordination with multiple units, including elements of the National Guard, highlighting the center’s role in integrating different capabilities into a single strike plan.
Ukraine scales up long-range drone campaign
Meloshyna said the creation of the deep strike center highlights Ukraine’s growing reliance on coordinated drone operations and its focus on striking high-value targets beyond the immediate front line.
Ukraine is rapidly expanding its long-range drone campaign, scaling both “middle-strike” and “deep-strike” operations targeting Russian military, logistics, and energy assets far behind the front line.
Officials say more units and trained pilots are set to join from May, increasing the tempo of strikes that already exceed 100,000 drone sorties per month and are aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to sustain the war.
