Russia tried to kill Ukraine’s most public Shahed analyst — with four superspeed jet-powered Shaheds

Russia has attempted to target and kill Serhii Flash Beskresnov, an advisor to the defense minister who is well-regarded by the Ukrainian military, using jet-powered Shahed drones. In his blog, he describes the latest developments in Russian Shahed drones almost daily, also warning the public about the threats they pose.

Jet-powered Shahed drones travel at 300–500 km/h, making them difficult to shoot down. The drones used in this attack were manually controlled.

Several days before the strikes, Beskrestnov described the mobile network operator that Russia is heavily utilizing for terror in Ukraine, known as "Tele2".

Every Shahed drone is equipped with a SIM card from this operator. Batches of these SIM cards are specifically ordered by the operator and supplied to Shahed manufacturers. These cards can operate via roaming with Polish or Romanian operators while flying along the borders of those countries.

"I do not rule out the possibility that SIM cards from this same operator are being used to control the mysterious UAVs appearing in various European countries," he wrote.

Attack destroys analyst's house in fire

"It is the first time I have seen our enemy attempt to attack or eliminate someone using Shaheds, directed at a target in this way," said Flash.

He explained that a Shahed struck his house. He noted that his home was completely destroyed in the attack, and he was "caught" by the blast. The analyst is currently in the hospital.

Manually-piloted Shaheds now make up 20% of Russian strike drones

From there, he commented on how common the technology of manually controlled "Shaheds" has become.

"It is very common. We are currently seeing that about 20% of Shaheds have online control via mesh networks from within the Russian Federation," he said.

Flash added that the Russians used four jet-powered Shaheds for the operation. Two of them were shot down en route by our guys using interceptors.

"It is very great luck that I stayed alive, I believe. We now know how it happened. But two Shaheds reached the outskirts of Kyiv," said Flesh.

Previously, Russia also killed a Fire Point employee with a drone. The company is known for producing "Flamingo" missiles. The Russians launched Shaheds directly into his home as well.
