Russian drones hit Ukrainian city 15 km from Poland. Next day, Belarus moved heavy equipment toward Poland’s border

Russian Shahed-type drones struck an energy facility in the city of Novovolynsk, located near the border with Poland. The city lies only about 15 km from the Lublin Voivodeship.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced large-scale military exercises involving troops of its Western Operational Command. The drills will continue until 25 March and are accompanied by active movements of heavy equipment toward the border with Poland.

As a result of the attack, part of the city lost electricity, and disruptions to the water supply were also reported. The damage to infrastructure was significant, with a fire breaking out at the site.

“An energy facility near Novovolynsk was hit. Electricity supply was cut off in part of the city. There are also disruptions to the water supply," Mayor Borys Karpus confirms

Drones crossed Kyiv and Zhytomyr oblasts toward Volyn

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the drones flew over the northern regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Zhytomyr Oblasts.

They then posed a threat to Rivne Oblast and could have targeted cities such as Kovel and Novovolynsk in the Volyn region.

Head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration, Roman Romaniuk, has also stated that a critical infrastructure facility was hit.

"Volyn was again attacked by a Shahed UAV. As a result, there was a power outage in one of the regions of the region. At the moment, more than 30,000 users are left without power. All relevant services are working on the spot to eliminate the consequences," he concluded.

In 2025, Russia launched 19 drones on Poland as part of an attack on Ukraine. The NATO state deployed several advanced aircraft, including F-35 and F-16, but still could not take down all the Russian targets.

Ukrainian air defenses destroyed more than 380 drones out of 415 with mobile fire groups across the country.

The attack caused strong fear and insecurity among Polish citizens. These sentiments were actively supported by some Polish right-wing politicians and media.
