Britain announced a package of military, humanitarian, and reconstruction support for Ukraine on 24 February, exactly four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, according to a statement on the UK government's website.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer chaired a call of the "Coalition of the Willing" group of allies alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper traveled to Kyiv for commemorations, while Defence Secretary John Healey joined Ukrainians in London.
The package allocates £20 million ($27 million) for emergency energy support. The funds are designated to protect and repair Ukraine's energy grid and provide additional electricity generation capacity — addressing the damage caused by Russian attacks over the winter and preparing Ukrainian energy systems for the next one.
A separate £5.7 million ($7.7 million) goes to humanitarian assistance for communities near the frontline — those facing evacuation, airstrikes, or internal displacement, the government statement said.
On the military side, the UK is providing medical advisory teams and helicopter pilot training. Teams of British military surgeons, nurses, and physiotherapists will advise Ukrainian medics, accompanying them during complex battlefield operations. The UK government said the program draws on British expertise in trauma surgery and war injury treatment, with the goal of helping Ukrainian service members return to duty or rebuild civilian lives.
Ukrainian pilots are now training at a British air base to become helicopter flying instructors — the first time the UK has offered Ukraine this type of instructor training, according to the government statement. Graduates will train the next generation of Ukrainian military pilots.
The package also includes £30 million ($40 million) to support Ukrainian societal resilience and to drive justice and accountability for victims and survivors of alleged Russian war crimes, Reuters reports.
"This was a war Putin thought he would win in a week, but he underestimated the will of the Ukrainian people. With our support they continue to fight with immense courage," Defence Secretary John Healey said, as quoted in the government statement.
The announcement follows a UK commitment on 12 February to urgently provide new missiles and air defence systems worth over £500 million ($675 million) to help defend Ukraine, according to ArmyInform.
